Nearby, divers at the dragon-shaped Yongduam Rock collect seafood using traditional methods.

  3. image
    NAGASAKI SASEBO

Sasebo is a city on Japan’s Kyushu Island. It's known for Huis Ten Bosch, an amusement park modeled after a Dutch town, with canals, replica buildings, windmills and flower gardens. Kujukushima Aquarium has dolphins, coral reefs and many jellyfish. Off the coast, boats cruise among the forested Kujukushima Islands, part of Saikai National Park. To the south, Saikai Bridge is a popular spot to view cherry blossoms.

  4. image
    KAGOSHIMA

Kagoshima, a seaside city on Japan's Kyushu Island, is the capital of Kagoshima Prefecture. It's best known for Sakurajima, an active volcano that faces Kinko Bay. At its base, the Nagisa Lava Trail winds through lava fields filled with boulders. Once set on an isolated island, the volcano became connected to the Osumi Peninsula after an eruption in 1914.

  5. image
    MIYAZAKI

Miyazaki is the capital city of Miyazaki Prefecture on the island of Kyushu in Japan. As of 1 September 2023, the city had an estimated population of 397,381 in 187859 households, and a population density of 620 persons per km². The total area of the city is 643.67 km²

  6. image
    KYOTO OSAKA JAPAN

The two cities are well-connected and there are numerous ways of making the journey. The fastest way to travel from Osaka to Kyoto is by rail. Using your JR pass you can catch a Shinkansen bullet train which only takes around 15 minutes to travel a distance of 56.4km.

  7. image
    HIROSHIMA

Hiroshima, a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island, was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. Today, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park commemorates the 1945 event. In the park are the ruins of Genbaku Dome, one of the few buildings that was left standing near ground zero. Other prominent sites include Shukkei-en, a formal Japanese garden, and Hiroshima Castle, a fortress surrounded by a moat and a park.

  8. image
    KOCHI

Kochi is the capital city of Kochi Prefecture located on the island of Shikoku in Japan. With over 40% of the prefectural population, Kochi is the main commercial and industrial centre and the primate city of the prefecture.

  9. image
    NAGOYA

Nagoya, capital of Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, is a manufacturing and shipping hub in central Honshu. The city’s Naka ward is home to museums and pachinko (gambling machine) parlors. Naka also includes the Sakae entertainment district, with attractions like the Sky-Boat Ferris wheel, which is attached to a mall. In northern Naka is Nagoya Castle, a partly reconstructed 1612 royal home displaying Edo-era artifacts.

  10. image
    MOUNT FUJI SHIMIZU

Sail into the Port of Shimizu and you will understand why it is considered one of Japan's three most beautiful ports. The sight of Mount Fuji soaring above the surrounding area belies the fact that Shimizu is not only a scenic area, but a culturally significant one as well.

  11. image
    TOKYO

Tokyo, Japan’s busy capital, mixes the ultramodern and the traditional, from neon-lit skyscrapers to historic temples. The opulent Meiji Shinto Shrine is known for its towering gate and surrounding woods. The Imperial Palace sits amid large public gardens. The city's many museums offer exhibits ranging from classical art (in the Tokyo National Museum) to a reconstructed kabuki theater (in the Edo-Tokyo Museum).
